Listen in to Alex’s backstory of how his interest in cryptocurrencies and the ‘frontier of money” led him to first to Saipan and now to Ciudad Morazán in Honduras.

Discover what it was like to live in the remote U.S. Pacific territory of Saipan and why Alex believes it to be the “freest place in America” and “America’s hidden gem.”

Find out how the U.S. government’s increasing interest in cryptocurrency saw the Crypto Frontier projects ultimately getting shelved in Saipan.

Learn about the unique law passed in Honduras that has allowed for three distinct “free private cities” to develop, including Ciudad Morazán, where Alex lives.

Hear why Alex chose to live in Ciudad Morazán, which is more catered towards locals, over Prospera, which more caters more to foreigners and expats.

Discover how Alex helped build a crypto ecosystem for payments which allows anyone who lives in Ciudad Morazán, aka “Bootstrap City,” to live entirely on crypto.

You’ll be floored when you hear how simple and easy it was to open a gym in Ciudad Morazán with so many needless rules and regulations stripped away.

CONCLUSION

It was a blast talking to Alex after having dinner with him at the Liberty In Our Lifetime conference in Prague last year. Ciudad Morazán and the prospects of future cities like it present a huge potential opportunity for expats to begin a new life under a totally different model of private governance. This is a huge reason why I am a Free Cities ambassador along with Alex.

I hope you enjoyed this conversation as much as I did. I’ll see you all next Wednesday!

CONCLUSION

I hope you enjoyed my little recap of my travels to and from Prague for this amazing Liberty in Our Lifetime conference. I never try to glorify things when I relay my experiences, and as you can tell, international travel isn’t always a walk in the park. This trip certainly had its low points, but in the end, it’s all a part of the adventure, and I’m certain you can take a few tips from my experiences. See you all next week!

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Titus over the years as I have served as both an Ambassador for the Free Cities Foundation and a member of the Advisory Council for Tipolis, and I’m excited to share today’s conversation in which we discuss the future of what is now being rebranded as “International Cities.”

Listen to Titus detail how his ideas about free cities spawned from his frustration with politics.

Hear about Titus’s unique background in politics, law and entrepreneurship that made him the ideal person to craft the vision of the free cities concept.

Learn about the many success stories that have emerged from the free cities model, including the widespread increase of special economic zones (SEZ’s).

Titus and I discuss the concept of “government as a service” and how the services we’re used to getting from coercive governments can be delivered through the free cities model.

Listen to Titus explain the new branding of “international cities” to counter the allergy governments have to the words “free” and “private.”

Titus and I roll our eyes together at the concept of the “social contract,” – the terms of which seem to change based on the whims of whoever is enforcing it.

Hear Titus lay out the reasons why contractual governments are much better protectors of rights than the current coercive model.

Titus hints at the regions where we may see some of these International Cities popping up in the coming years.

CONCLUSION

I was so excited to have Titus Gebel on the show after knowing him for many years through our mutual work with various free cities projects. As you can tell from the episode, Titus and I are both incredibly optimistic about the future of what is now being dubbed “International Cities.” Even as the clouds of world war and economic calamity prospects loom, I always do my best to focus on the actions we can take towards achieving greater liberty, and the International Cities concept is one of the most exciting prospects ahead.

TODAY’S CONVERSATION WITH ALEX VOSS

Listen to Alex detail the pathway that took him from an interest in Austrian Economics to directly applying that knowledge through his work with Tipolis.

Learn the differences between the for-profit company “Tipolis” and the not-for-profit “Free Cities Foundation.”

Alex answers the question on everyone’s mind when it comes to “free cities”: where does the money come from, if not from “taxes” in the traditional sense?

We discuss one of the most well-known “free cities” projects in Prospera, Honduras, and provide an update on the troubles they’ve encountered with the government there.

Hear Alex further explain the business model behind free cities and how the risk associated with these projects is “built-in” to the price. If everything were perfect and predictable, the costs wouldn’t be as attractive as there are today. You are paid handsomely for the perceived risk.

Alex and I discuss the interesting case of El Salvador and whether its’ adoption of Bitcoin could make it a prime location for a free city project itself.

Listen to Alex give an inside look at how and why the doors have rapidly begun to open in the last several years when it comes to finding opportunities with sympathetic governments for potential free city prospects.

We discuss how the economic impact of the COVID years, along with the rise of digital nomadism, have completely changed the landscape for the viability of free cities.

CONCLUSION

One of my favourite parts of what I do with Expat Money is all the great people like Alex I’ve had the opportunity to connect with through the shared interest of helping others achieve more liberty in their lives.

There is a massive overlap between what I do in the expat space and the work Alex and others are doing with the Free Cities Foundation and Tipolis, and that’s why I decided to become involved in these projects myself and now sit on their company’s advisory council.

I hope you enjoyed this latest look at the concept of free cities. We’ll continue to circle back to it here on the Expat Money Show as things constantly evolve. In the meantime, be sure to follow Alex and his work at Tipolis and the Free Cities Foundation!
